While a lot of the Autumn Lights have been underway since the weekend, a few of the more popular spots turn the lights on this Friday. Be sure to check out the beautiful light displays this Autumn if you’re in or around the Tokyo area!
六義園 「紅葉と大名庭園のライトアップ」- Rikugien Garden (November 23 – December 16)
Rikugien is known as one of the most beautiful Japanese-style landscaped gardens. The park is open from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., entry until 8:30 p.m. It will be open daily for the viewing period. Admission is ￥300 (night viewing may have a separate charge).
Rikugien’s Someimon Gate is a few minutes away from Komagome Station on the JR Yamanote Line or the Metro Namboku Line.
長谷寺 「紅葉ライトアップ」 – Hasedera (November 23 – December 9)
Hasedera is a popular temple in the city of Kamakura. The lights will be on from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Viewing is free of charge.
To get to Hasedera, take the Enoden Railway line from Kamakura and get off at Hase Station. It is the third stop. From there, it is a five-minute walk to the temple.
国営武蔵丘陵森林公園 – Musashi Kyuryo Shinrin Park (November 17 – December 2)
There will be mini-concerts, pizza and bread-making activities during the Autumn Viewing Festival. Lights will be turned on at 4:30 p.m. and they can be enjoyed until 8:30 p.m.
To get to Shinrin Park, take the Tobu Tojo Line and get off at Shinrin Koen Station (about 60 minutes from Ikebukuro by Express). Catch a bus to the park at the South Exit of the station (about 7 minutes). Or take the JR Takasaki Line to Kumagaya, from there take a bus bound for Shinrin Koen (about 35 minutes).
長瀞 「紅葉ライトアップ」 – Nagatoro (November 10 – 25)
Nagatoro is located in the Chichibu area in Saitama. Nagatoro is known for its rafting and riverboat tours. The Autumn Night Viewing begins at 5:30 p.m. and ends at 9:30 p.m. It is free of charge.
The illuminated park is a 10-minute walk from Kami-nagatoro Station on the Chichibu Line. Take the train from Kumagaya Station.
